Pašalić’s novel for adults The Residents of the Yellow Building follows the fate of the main protagonists of Chief Wooden Leg. Now in their 30s, actor Diki and his wife Ana-Mari’s lives are turned upside-down when the Bosnian war reaches their apartment in Grbavica, a suburb of Sarajevo occupied by Serb soldiers in 1992. The novel begins in wartime Sarajevo, then expands its setting to Dalmatia, Belgrade and Vienna, finally ending in Boston, in 2001. Its plot shifts from an account of war to a love story, before becoming a thriller at the very end.
